Sad news came from the Land of the Rising Sun: Hanae Mori, one of the most successful and famous fashion designers, has passed away. The Japanese-born fashion designer lived to be 96 years old.

Couturier died due to a fever, Bloomberg quotes the words of relatives of the deceased. It is known that Mori opened her first atelier in 1951, and after 10-20 years she becomes one of two Japanese women whose collections were presented on the catwalks of Paris and New York. She was also recognized as a haute couture designer by the French Couture Federation, which was quite rare.

But the work of this designer is also familiar to ordinary residents of the country, far from fashion. From the 1960s to the 1980s, Mori designed uniforms for Japan Air Lines flight attendants and also designed clothing for the Japanese Olympic team at the Barcelona and Lillehammer Games. Grace Kelly, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Reagan were the fashion designer’s clients.
